The 2397th Weekly Regular Meeting and Vocational Awards Ceremony of the Rotary Club of Gauhati South was held on 19th June 2026 at Hotel Rajdhani Regency under the chairmanship of President Rtn. Priyama Goswami. Rtn. Arjita Kakati was presented a token of appreciation for offering fellowship. The President announced the Eye Camp scheduled at Mothers’ Home on 22nd June. Guest Speaker Smti. Madhurima Baruah Sen, IAS (Retd.), was introduced by Rtn. Devajyoti Hazarika and felicitated. The Late Shri Devakanta Kakati Memorial Award was conferred on Sri Narmohan Das, while the Late Smt. Nirmala Kakati Memorial Award was conferred on Mrs. Moon Moon Sarkar. Both awardees received a citation, gamusa, RCGS Cup, ₹10,000 cheque, gift, and souvenir. Rtn. Animika Choudhury spoke on the occasion. Smti. Madhurima Baruah Sen delivered an insightful presentation on “A Documentary on Nine Decades of Assamese Cinema: Heritage, Culture and Creativity.”

Blind Awards Ceremony Community Service

Blind Awards Ceremony

The 2386th Weekly Regular Meeting was held on 3rd April 2026 at Hotel Rajdhani Regency and called to order at 6:30 PM with the National Anthem, followed by a welcome address. Tokens of appreciation were presented to Rtn. Priyam Goswami and Rtn. Jyoti Das, and birthday wishes conveyed to absent members. Rtn. P.D. Choudhury briefed on the DG’s visit and highlighted the distribution of 11 food carts. Chief Guest PDG Prabhat K. Kedia was felicitated. Miss Priyanka Dey of Moran Blind School was honoured under the Archana & Atul Chandra Goswami Award with a gamusa, citation, and ₹10,000. A 100% visually impaired student, she is a football captain, award-winning sportsperson, and music enthusiast pursuing her Visharad degree.

World Environment Day Art & Drawing Competition

On the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, the Rotary Club of Gauhati South (RCGS), in association with Save Bharalu (Bharalu Bachao Abhiyan), organized an Art & Drawing Competition on 5th June 2026 at BDS Government Higher Secondary School for the Hearing Impaired, Kahilipara, Guwahati. The programme aimed to promote environmental awareness and encourage students to express their ideas on conservation through art. Competitions were held in three categories based on themes related to a cleaner and greener future. Students participated enthusiastically, showcasing creativity on issues such as environmental protection, sustainable development, and conservation of rivers and forests. The event highlighted the joint commitment of RCGS and Save Bharalu towards environmental education and community engagement. Donation of Sewing Machine to Jana Sikshan Sanstha

On 9th June 2026, the Basic Education & Literacy Committee of Rotary Club of Guwahati South (RCGS) donated a Usha Sewing Machine to Jana Sikshan Sansthan (JSS) to support skill development among neo-literates. The sewing machine will be used in a 40-day Cutting and Tailoring Training Programme, enabling beneficiaries to acquire vocational skills and improve their prospects for self-employment and economic independence. During the programme, Mr. Sabin Das, Director of JSS, expressed his appreciation for the initiative and conveyed his interest in organizing more training programmes for neo-literates in collaboration with RCGS in the future. He emphasized the importance of such partnerships in promoting literacy-linked skill development and livelihood generation. The programme was attended by RCGS President Rtn. Priyama Goswami, Rtn. Third HTFI ( How to face interview)

The third programme of “How to Face an Interview” for the Rotary year 2025–2026 was conducted for the students of the College of Veterinary Science, Assam Agricultural University, Khanapara on 6th April 2026. The programme was organised by the Training and Placement Cell, CVSc under the coordination of Dr. Debajyoti Dutta. The Rotarians were warmly welcomed by Rtn. Dr. Bibekananda Saikia, Dean, CVSc. The first session by Rtn. Swapan Jyoti Sarma focused on interview strategies, expectations of interviewers and effective responses, highlighting that an interview should be a meaningful conversation. The second session by Rtn. Priyam Goswami emphasized personality development for interviews and workplace readiness. The final session by Rtn. Atanu Chowdhury covered online interview techniques and strategies. The programme was attended by around 243 students, faculty members and many Rotarians, and the faculty expressed sincere thanks to RCGS for this impactful initiative.

Wheelchair Donation Project

On 22nd May, the Rotary Club of Gauhati South (RCGS) donated four wheelchairs to four elderly and economically needy women to improve their mobility, comfort, and quality of life. The beneficiaries were Smti Snigdha Borgohain (79), Smti Jharna Chakraborty (81), Smti Akan Thakuria (80), and Smti Jayamati Deka (68). One wheelchair was generously donated by Rtn Ranjan Bhuyan, another jointly by Rtn Minoti Barthakur and Rtn Nibedita Barua, while the remaining two were sponsored by RCGS. The beneficiaries and their families expressed sincere gratitude for the support. This initiative reflects Rotary’s commitment to serving the community and assisting vulnerable individuals, enabling them to lead more dignified and independent lives under the motto “Service Above Self.”

Interaction Programme at Jalukbari Higher Secondar

The Basic Education & Literacy Committee organized an Interaction Programme at Jalukbari Higher Secondary School in association with "Bigyanor Rahghora," an organization dedicated to developing scientific temperament among children. The programme aimed to encourage students to adopt a scientific outlook, think critically, and nurture curiosity. Through interactive discussions, demonstrations, and engaging activities, the resource persons inspired students to explore scientific concepts and apply rational thinking in their daily lives. A total of 70 students and 10 teachers participated enthusiastically in the programme. The session provided an enriching learning experience, motivating students to embrace inquiry, innovation, and lifelong learning. The event concluded with a vote of thanks to the school authorities, teachers, students, and the team from Bigyanor Rahghora for their valuable support and contribution.

Awareness Programme on Tobacco and Smoking

An Awareness Programme on Smoking and Tobacco was organized at Sonaram Higher Secondary School with participation of 510 students from Classes VII to XI. The programme was attended by President Rtn Priyama Goswami, Rtn Manjusri Baruah, and Rtn Anjana Choudhury Saikia. Resource Person Rtn Minoti Barthakur delivered an informative and interesting talk on the harmful effects of cigarettes and tobacco. To keep the students engaged, she shared two inspiring true motivational stories which were highly appreciated by the students. A Class X student also shared a meaningful story during the session. At the end, all students took an oath that they would neither consume tobacco nor encourage their friends to use it.

Crochet Making Workshop

On 11th May 2026, the Rotary Club of Gauhati South, in collaboration with the NSS Wing of Gauhati Commerce College, successfully organised a Crochet Making Workshop at the college’s adopted village, Kharguligaon, Chapaidang, Bonda. The programme aimed to promote vocational skills and self-reliance among local women. Resource person Mrs. Daisy Kalita conducted the workshop and provided practical training on crochet techniques and the making of woollen crochet items through easy and interactive demonstrations. A total of 16 village women beneficiaries and 12 NSS students enthusiastically participated in the programme. The workshop created awareness about creative skill development and highlighted opportunities for self-employment and small-scale income generation. The initiative reflected the club’s commitment towards women empowerment and sustainable community development through vocational training activities.

Jewellery Making Workshop

On 7th May 2026, the Rotary Club of Gauhati South, in association with the Gauhati Commerce College NSS, successfully organized a Jewellery Making Workshop in the adopted village of the college at Kharguligaon, Chapaidang, Bonda. The workshop was conducted by resource person Mrs. Gopali Das, who provided practical training and guidance to the participants. Around 24 village women beneficiaries along with 22 NSS students actively participated in the programme. A few of the women participants also practiced jewellery making by themselves during the workshop, showing great enthusiasm and interest in learning the skill. The programme aimed at promoting vocational training, creativity, and self-employment opportunities among the local women.

on 29th April 2026.A candle-making training programme was organised at Apna Ghar Guwahati (Intas Foundation) in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Gauhati South. The session saw enthusiastic participation from 32 beneficiaries, including patients and caregivers, creating a lively atmosphere. Trainers demonstrated the full process—melting wax, adding colours and fragrances, placing wicks, and moulding candles. Participants actively engaged in each step, showing interest and creativity. The programme served as a therapeutic and recreational activity, reducing stress and promoting mental well-being. It also provided a useful skill that can be pursued as a hobby or small income source. Overall, the session was engaging, meaningful, and beneficial for all participants.

In the absence of the Principal, Vice Principal Dr. Chandana Sinha Roy welcomed the gathering, and Dr. Shantanu Roy Choudhury, Programme Officer of the NSS Wing, outlined the objectives.Resource persons from RCGS included Rtn. Under the Archana & Atul Chandra Goswami Award for a Visually Impaired Student (2025–26), Miss Priyanka Dey was felicitated for her excellence in sports and honoured with a gamusa, citation, and a cheque of ₹10,000, presented by Chief Guest PDG Prabhat K. Kedia along with Rtn. Jyoti Das and President Rtn. Priyama Goswami, along with a gift bag; she expressed heartfelt gratitude to RCGS and, despite being 100% visually impaired, has achieved remarkable success as captain of the Assam Girls Blind Football Team, representing Assam in the North-East Zonal Tournament where her team finished runners-up against Mizoram, and was also awarded Best Emerging Player of the Year while actively playing cricket; academically bright and passionate about music, she is pursuing her Visharad degree, and her confidence and determination were reflected in her speech, after which she rendered two Assamese songs enjoyed by all attendees.

The event was graced by Dr. Kameshwar Singh Elangbam, Prabhat Kedia, Valmiki and Dr. Ezhil Kumar, along with AGs Vikash Bajaj, Utpal Gohain, P. D. Choudhury, President Priyama Goswami and Rotarians. On 25 th March 2026. The Rotary Club of Gauhati South successfully installed a Smart Board at Nondi Mikir School. The project, originally sanctioned under the District Grant for 2024–25 with a budget of ₹72,000, was executed during the Rotary year 2025–26.The Headmaster of the school expressed heartfelt gratitude to the club for this valuable initiative aimed at enhancing digital learning. The programme began with the felicitation of senior Rotarians Rtn. Gayatri Bhattacharyya and Rtn. Renu Goswami. This was followed by the formal inauguration of the Smart Board by the Headmaster in the presence of other dignitaries.A fellowship Hi-Tea was also hosted by the school authorities. Free Eye Screening and Check-Up Camp

On 7 March 2026, the Rotary Club of Gauhati South organized a Free Eye Check-up cum Screening Camp at S.B. Deorah College in collaboration with the Health Care Committee of the college and with support from Centre for Sight Eye Hospital, Guwahati. The programme began at 10:30 AM with a welcome address by President Rtn. Priyama Goswami, who thanked Rtn. Bhupendra Nath Das for initiating the project and expressed gratitude to the hospital and college authorities for their support.The screening ran from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, benefiting about 87 people. On 13th February 2026, RCGS visited Parijat Academy, Natun Garbhanga, an underprivileged residential school housing 85 students, including several orphans, managed by only two teachers and one caretaker. Under the TEACH Programme, an engaging storytelling and learning session was organized to inspire curiosity, values, and scientific thinking. Rtn. Gayatri Borthakur introduced the Plant Kingdom, focusing on algae and fungi. Rtn. Dr. Indira Bardoloi presented an interesting talk on magnets and their uses. Rtn. P. D. Ltd. and SBI Sanjeevani Clinic, organized a Mega Primary Health Care Service at Bimala Nagar L.P. School, Guwabari, Nalbari, Assam. The programme aimed at providing essential primary health check-ups to needy villagers from nearby areas. A dedicated team of doctors conducted general health screenings, while an eye specialist carried out detailed eye examinations. A total of 53 beneficiaries availed themselves of the services. During the eye check-ups, a few patients were diagnosed with cataract, and necessary arrangements have been planned for their surgical treatment at a later stage. Dr. Anil Mahanta, supported by two general physicians and two nurses from Nemcare Hospital, along with other doctors and medical staff.A total of 63 patients received medical consultation, and a dedicated breast cancer screening unit encouraged many women to undergo examination. on 24 December 2025.The Rotary Club of Gauhati South organized a meaningful service programme at Garbhanga Parijat Academy, a small residential school in a remote village serving about 85 children, many of them orphans. The students live in the hostel and are taught by only two devoted teachers on a modest salary. There are no admission or tuition fees; children contribute a small amount for food, and many books are donated. The school is lovingly guided by Mr. Prakash Sharma, who shared that their greatest need is additional teachers.The children welcomed Rotarians with songs and dances. A drawing competition was held, and prizes and stationery were distributed. The Club also donated sports items including footballs, skipping ropes, badminton sets, and indoor games. On the 6th, 7th, and 8th of November 2025, the Rotary Club of Gauhati South organized a three-day Cake Making Workshop to empower women. The workshop was held at Prachee’s Cuddle Corner, House No. 13, Binawa Nagar, Lutuma Road, 4th Battalion Gate Lane, Kalapahar. A total of 16 women participated in the program.On the first day, the resource person, Ms. Shikha Das, demonstrated both practically and theoretically the measurements and quantities required for preparing the cake batter. On the second day, she taught the participants how to make icing. On the third day, the participants prepared cakes on their own.The President, Rtn. On 9th October 2025, the Rotary Club of Gauhati South (RCGS) held its annual Nation Builders Award Ceremony, honoring the dedication and service of outstanding educators. This year, 20 teachers received the Nation Builder Award, along with a citation, Gamusa, and the club’s souvenir Udayan. The event was graced by Dr. Jayanta Kr. Sarma as Chief Guest and Sri Apurba Thakuria as Distinguished Guest. Dr. Sarma spoke about upcoming government education initiatives and the vision to make Assam fully literate by 2026, inspired by Mizoram’s success. Paramesh Dev ChoudhuryThe first Zone-6 TRF Symposium in RI-3240 was hosted by all Rotary Clubs of Siliguri, covering 10 districts from Bhutan, Eastern India, and Nepal. The event was graced by Trustee Chair PRIP Holger Knaack (Germany) and Trustee PRID Dr. Bharat Pandya (India). After the national anthems of Germany, Nepal, Bhutan, and India, RRFC Dr. Debasish Das presented an informative TRF overview, followed by a Polio Plus update by PDG Uttam Ganguly. Awards were presented, including RI-3240 receiving the ‘Annual Fund Early Achiever Award.’ Cultural performances were interspersed. In collaboration with Pragya Mahila Sora, we organized a Handmade Natural Soap-Making Training Workshop at their premises in Kharghuli, near Beltol Shiv Mandir, Guwahati.
